Wallands Community Primary and Nursery School

SEND

The school has a special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO), Julie Mortimer, whose role is to oversee the special educational needs (SEN) provision throughout the school.

These needs could include language and learning difficulties, sensory impairment, physical, behavioural and emotional difficulties.

Within each class, work is differentiated to suit the needs of the children. During their Reception Year a Foundation Stage Profile is kept for each child which enables us to assess the child’s ability and tailor the relevant learning experiences for that child. In all classes, ongoing observations and assessments enable teachers to identify children’s individual needs and put in place strategies to address them.

The staged approach of the Code of Practice for the identification and assessment of special educational needs operates within the school. The progress of some children is directed and measured with the help of an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) and/or the school Provision Map. Parents are fully consulted and actively encouraged to participate at each of the stages.

If you feel your child has Special Educational Needs, please let us know as soon as possible. We are an inclusive school and as such we welcome the admission of children with disabilities who would benefit from attending our school.

If you would like to contact Julie Mortimer, please call 01273 472776 option 7 or email.
